Mr. Vinay Mohan Kwatra

Vinay Mohan Kwatra has done Masters in Science and also holds a Diploma in International Relations. He joined Diplomatic Service in 1988.

As a career Diplomat, his first assignment was in Geneva, where he dealt with several UN organizations including Conference on Disarmament, International Labour Organization (ILO), World Health Organization (WHO), Commission on Human Rights, etc. He then took up assignment at the Indian Consulate in Durban, South Africa, where he was primarily responsible for commercial and economic work. He served at the Indian Embassy in Tashkent in the Political and Economic Wing. In Delhi, he worked as the Director dealing with India’s relations with Iran and Afghanistan, including India’s development program in Afghanistan.

His assignments also include a posting as Counsellor (Commerce) and Deputy Chief of Mission to the Indian Embassy in China, where trade and economic agenda were his primary responsibilities.

Before taking over as head of the Commerce Wing in the Embassy of India, Washington DC in May 2010, he was Director and Head of Economic, Trade and Finance issues at the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), where he was primarily responsible for development and implementation of regional trade agreements on trade in goods, trade in services and related trade facilitation matters.

He has also participated in various study programs including the Disarmament Fellowship of the Conference on Disarmament and Special Programs for the Commercial Representatives of the Government of India. He speaks French and has a working knowledge of Russian.

Sampath has taught Global Business in the UC-Irvine Merage MBA program. He also speaks widely at conferences and in the media. Sampath serves on the boards and committees of the IBA Journal, IEEE, IEABA, California Governor’s CTE Initiative, and TechAmerica.

Sampath holds an MBA from the USC Marshall School of Business.
